Denise Nicole Battle, soprano and multi-genre vocalist, hails from the Tidewater Area of Portsmouth, Virginia where she was heavily involved in the Virginia Opera Chorus and put on recitals for the exposure of opera and art song to the surrounding area. She has worked with various artists from opera singer Barbara Bonney, opened up with the National Anthem for former President, Barack Obama and Stevie Wonder, in addition to singing background vocals for Lalah Hathaway. Denise maintained a small vocal studio where she taught individual lessons to students ranging from 5-38 years old in interests of opera, musical theater, jazz, and R&B/soul music.
During the summer of 2018, Denise relocated to New York City to further pursue her passions in singing and became involved with the Bronx Opera and New Rochelle Opera Company, where she made her debut as Annina, in La Traviata. Denise was also a soprano section leader at The Episcopal Church of St. Albans the Martyr in Queens, New York, in addition to lending her talents singing in the Cathedral Choir at The Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, New York. During the summer and fall of 2019, Denise became active with the Opera Collective organization, whose mission is to bring opera to commuters in the subway stations and greater New York City area. Denise’s passion remains to further expose opera to urban and under-developed communities while shining God’s light through her gift. She enjoys sharing her passions and developing projects for opera exposure, specifically in the Black Community. After relocating back home in 2020, Denise currently serves as a vocal coach to an amazing team of worship leaders at Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, VA, in addition to maintaining a private voice studio, virtually and in person. In addition, she enjoys worshipping and serving on the worship team at her home church at New Life Church.
